The "Sunni or Shiite" Quiz

I'm proud to say that I got 8 out of 8 right in this ABC News quiz on whether particular persons, organizations and nations are Sunni or Shiite Muslims. I do have to give most of the credit to Mark Alexander's piece, previously highlighted here, that discussed them. (That and a little luck.)

Trackback Pings

Hey Doug, I took the quiz too and got 7 of 8.

Looks like you and I are more than qualified to be Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Chairman Reyes (D-TX) would have flunked the test. I recall this article from 'Congressional Quarterly' on December 8 and how he couldn't answer if al Qaeda or Hezbolla are Sunni or Shiite.

Here's the link:

Yes, I recall the story. Part of me wants to cut the guy some slack, but part of me says that these guys want to kill us in a big way, and knowing your enemies is rather imperative.

I don't want to cut him any slack for the latter reason you mentioned. Our national security is too important to be left up to people who don't want to take the time to learn about our enemy. Perhaps if he did, maybe he and others in his party (and many Republicans) wouldn't be so political over this issue. Wishful thinking, I know.

I would be just as outraged over this if Reyes was a Republican. Maybe more. The difference is, had it been a Republican in that situation, it would still be front page news.

Keep up the good work.
