Congrats to the 12 Republicans and 1 Democrat that voted to (try to) keep the smaller Coburn amendment. (See the 1:40pm update here.)

Hmm, Don Surber who links to this post has a good point. These are federal gas tax dollars. Are we suggesting that the whole federal budget is essentially one big slush fund to redistribute at will? I agree that these pork projects need to go, but the money is still earmarked as transportation dollars.

This is probably a longer-term issue than one bill's pork.

I am not so sure Surber has such a good point in regard to the Coburn ammendment I support. Both the Alaska bridge-to-nowhere boondoggle and the damaged Louisiana bridge are highway projects. It is just a matter of priorities which is what Senators are supposed to establish.
